Solar Panels and Battery Storage FAQs

What is the fire rating of your panel system?

We use fiber cement siding, which is Class A rated, meaning it’s resistant to direct flame for one hour. It’s more fire-resistant than charred wood, though both comply with Wildland Urban Interface codes.

Where are your solar panels sourced?

It depends on location. We often use Enphase panels, which feature micro-inverters that are efficient even in less sunny climates. Locale-specific requirements will guide our choice.

Does your proposal include solar panels and batteries?

Yes. Standard proposals include full solar roofs and energy storage.

What does 'net-zero' mean and do you offer water sustainability?

Net-zero refers to energy, not water. We offer water recycling systems that reduce water use by 30–50%. True water net-zero is not yet achievable with today's technology, but we're actively working toward it. Our long-term goal is a fully off-grid home.

Do you offer warranties?

Yes. All homes comply with California SB-800, which requires a 10-year warranty on structural and finish elements. Appliances and systems come with their own manufacturer warranties as well.

Are your contracts fixed-price?

Yes. Once you approve the design, we offer a fixed-price proposal. There are no unexpected change orders. This is a major difference from traditional builders who often increase prices mid-project.

Does your pricing include kitchen appliances?

Yes. Our pricing includes high-end LG kitchen appliances and washer/dryer. Clients can request premium upgrades, and we’ll design the kitchen to accommodate them.

Is in-house financing available?

Not directly through Cosmic Buildings. However, we do have lender partners who understand our building system and can help with construction loans.

What’s the difference between a Hardie board and your cement board?

It comes down to suppliers and slight material differences. We currently use another fiber cement board that we find performs better in our builds. But if a client prefers Hardie board, we can accommodate it.

How scalable is your robotic system?

Very. The robotic arm is from ABB, the same used in automotive factories. Our proprietary tools and software are what make it unique. One arm can produce components for 150–180 homes a year. They're affordable and easily deployable - unlike capital intensive centralized prefab factories. Our long-term goal is to have micro-factories in every state.

Can you build multi-family housing?

Yes. We’re currently in conversations about building a 32 to 39-unit townhome complex. We’ve already designed other multifamily projects.

Is there a minimum square footage?

No. We’re building everything from 380 sq ft ADUs to 7,200 sq ft custom homes - even multifamily projects with 30+ units.

Are you limited to a single story?

No. We can and do build two-story homes. It depends on the client’s needs and zoning restrictions. We will always begin with a design intake session to understand your vision and budget, and design accordingly.

Can I begin working on design without knowing the site?

To a certain extent, yes. We can create general or skeleton designs assuming a flat lot. However, final layout decisions depend on site specifics, such as solar orientation, views, and topography. It's worth beginning the design conversation early, and then finalizing once the site is confirmed.
